Sudanese Army Conducts Extensive Sweep Operations in South Kordofan
The Sudanese army carried out extensive sweep operations across several areas in South Kordofan state on Saturday.
The Kortala area in South Kordofan witnessed heavy clashes on Wednesday and Thursday between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM–N), resulting in civilian casualties and the displacement of hundreds of residents.
Military sources told Al-Tara Sudan that the army conducted wide-ranging sweep operations in South Kordofan. The sources added that the army successfully expelled the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the SPLM–N, led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, from the Gardud Nama and Abu Zayda areas.
The sources indicated that the sweep operations were preceded by airstrikes carried out by the Sudanese Air Force targeting RSF and SPLM–N positions. According to the sources, the airstrikes destroyed several combat vehicles along with their full military equipment and killed a number of combatants.
South Kordofan’s two largest cities, Kadugli and Dilling, have been under a tight siege imposed by the RSF and the SPLM–N allied forces led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu for over two years. Both cities have also been subjected to repeated artillery attacks by the SPLM, targeting service institutions and shelter centres, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths.
