Sudanese Army Conducts Airdrop Operation in El-Fashir

El-Fashir – Sudanese Echoes

The Sudanese Army carried out on Monday a parachute airdrop to its main base in El-Fashir, North Darfur, for the first time in nearly five months, amid intensifying clashes.

Military sources reported that a Sudanese Air Force transport aircraft dropped supplies early this morning to the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division in El-Fashir.

The supplies included ammunition, medicines, significant quantities of food, as well as financial allocations.

Eyewitnesses in El-Fashir said an Antonov cargo plane hovered for more than half an hour over the North Darfur capital before releasing its load from the air and leaving the city’s airspace without being intercepted by the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) anti-aircraft systems.

The airdrop followed intensified activity by army drones over the past four days, targeting RSF positions around the 6th Infantry Division headquarters.

On Sunday, drones also struck the Jagojago area east of El-Fashir.

Since last April, the army had halted supply operations to its forces in El-Fashir, which has been under a suffocating siege, after an RSF air-defense system shot down a fighter jet over the city.

Security assessments indicate that the RSF has deployed air-defense systems in at least two locations, including Jagojago east of El-Fashir, reportedly operated by mercenaries from Colombia.
