Sudan: Supreme Judicial Committee Directs Raising the Amount of Blood Money and Lifting Immunities

Supreme Court Judge, Deputy Chief Justice, and Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Committee, Munir Mohammed Al-Hassan, chaired the committee’s second meeting; attended by Supreme Court Judge, Head of the Judiciary of the Red Sea State, Abdel-Moneim Ismail Abu Bakr and committee members.

 

Munir welcomed the newly added members to the committee and explained the committee’s objectives for removing obstacles that hinder the course of justice.

 

The committee’s rapporteur explained the assignments and decisions taken at the first meeting and the formation of the judicial committees in the secured states, which began their meetings following the Supreme Committee’s decision to form them.

 

A representative from the Ministry of Justice spoke about the ministry’s role and the need to quickly decide on amending laws that require review and amendment.

 

The meeting discussed lifting immunity from those facing judicial charges, which would contribute to expediting proceedings and avoiding delays, and the need to set a timeframe for this.

 

The meeting also discussed the need to submit a recommendation to amend the amount of blood money.

 

The meeting touched on the provision of legal aid by the Ministry of Justice and its role in providing legal advice.
