Sudan Sets Four Conditions for a Truce Before the Quartet
The Sudanese newspaper Al-Sudani reported that the Sudanese government has submitted four observations to the technical mechanism of the Quartet group regarding the proposed truce.
According to the report, the government demanded the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia from all areas it currently occupies — including the regions it has recently overrun — to ensure the protection of civilians from violations and acts of genocide committed by the militia, such as those witnessed in El-Fashir.
Following the withdrawal, the Sudanese government would deploy national police forces across all cities and areas evacuated by the militia, while RSF fighters would be assembled in specific, mutually agreed-upon zones.
The government also called for the establishment of an international monitoring mechanism to oversee the RSF militia during the truce, in order to prevent external arms supplies to the militia throughout the ceasefire period or any subsequent cessation of hostilities.
