Sudan PM Announces Measures to Revive Al-Gezira Scheme

Sudan’s Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Al-Tayib Idris on Saturday unveiled a series of measures to rescue the country’s largest agricultural project, Al-Gezira Scheme.
The package includes creating a new irrigation unit, activating the Agricultural and Animal Production Professions Act, forming a Rural Women’s Association, and setting up a committee to address indebted farmers’ problems.
Idris pledged improved seeds and inputs for the winter cropping season, highlighting the importance of digital transformation in the scheme.
He also praised the Armed Forces and allied groups for defending Sudan in the “Battle of Dignity.”
Wali (governor) of Al-Gezira State Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair said local efforts helped counter rumors of famine, while scheme governor Ibrahim Mustafa stressed that irrigation and management are “two sides of the same coin.”
