Sudan Launches Strike Force to Combat Gold Smuggling
Minister of Minerals, Nur Al-Daem Taha, announced a new phase of stringent oversight over the country’s mineral resources, including the creation of a “joint strike force” to curb gold smuggling and economic sabotage.
He inaugurated operational vehicles for the Mining Security Directorate and highlighted the use of modern technologies such as AI systems and drones to enhance surveillance. The force will integrate Mining Security Police, Anti-Smuggling Units, Customs, Intelligence, and the Armed Forces.
The minister stressed strict penalties for offenders and unveiled incentives to channel gold through official channels while expanding exploration and formalizing artisanal mining.
