Sudan Launches Largest Electric Vehicle Production Project
The Director of Giad Automotive Company in Sudan Al-Fatih Awad Abdullah, confirmed that work on the electric vehicle (EV) production project officially began in early 2025. He told Al Jazeera that the launch is planned for early 2026, specifically in the first quarter.
Giad Group for Engineering Industries had previously announced the launch of Sudan’s first-ever electric vehicle production project, with official operations scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026. The initiative represents a qualitative transformation in the transport and industrial sectors and opens a new path for Sudan’s economy amid rapidly changing global energy markets.
According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the EV project is considered a strategic addition to Sudan’s economy, as it reduces reliance on traditional fuels, lowers maintenance costs compared to conventional vehicles, and provides economical, environmentally friendly transport alternatives. The project aligns with global trends toward clean energy and addresses upcoming challenges amid rising fuel costs and economic pressures.
Regarding production, Engineer Abdullah told Al Jazeera that Giad has partnered with a major Chinese company, whose name will be announced at the official launch. The first phase will rely on local assembly with 45% local content, with a three-year plan to increase this to 70% for certain models.
Giad aims to offer multiple models with driving ranges of approximately 400 km, 430 km, and 510 km per charge, in addition to hybrid models with extended ranges of up to 1,100 km to meet both urban commuting and long-distance travel needs.
