Sudan-Central African Republic Borders Closed Following Renewed Violence

The United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and local CAR forces deployed a military contingent to close the border with Sudan, following renewed clashes between border tribes of the two countries.

Native local leaderships told Darfur24 that militias controlling the border area with the Central African Republic have reinforced their positions following the closure.

The reinforcements were concentrated around areas where returning Sudanese communities are gathered in the Quba area, northwest of Um Dafog city.

Local residents reported that the border closure was implemented hours after an explosive shell, fired from inside Sudanese territory on Friday, landed in the market of Um Dafog in the CAR.

The shelling injured five children, who were taken to the United Nations hospital in the Central African Republic for treatment.

Eyewitnesses in the border area said they observed a widespread deployment of UN-marked soldiers and military vehicles conducting patrols, alongside forces and equipment belonging to the Central African Republic.
