South Sudan to Export Oil via Djibouti

Reports from South Sudan indicated an agreement to establish a pipeline to transport and export South Sudanese oil through Ethiopian territory to Djibouti ports, and to build oil infrastructure. This is in addition to the road currently under construction linking Upper Nile State in South Sudan with the Ethiopian border region of Gambella. The road connects Gambella to the Pagak region of Upper Nile State, passing through Maiwut to Malakal, Maloth, and Baluch.

The road is currently under construction and will be used to transport South Sudanese oil through Ethiopian territory to Djibouti ports. It was approved by the National Legislative Assembly of South Sudan on June 24, 2024, with an estimated budget of approximately $778 million.
