Save the Children: Sudanese Village of Tarsin Wiped Off the Map After Landslide
Francisco Lanino, Deputy Director of Programs and Operations at Save the Children, stated that the Sudanese village of Tarsin was completely wiped off the map following a landslide, noting that the death toll could exceed 1,000.
In an interview with Al-Hadath TV, he said the organization reached the disaster site promptly and carried out numerous interventions immediately after the incident.
He highlighted the provision of medical assistance, with particular focus on children who lost their families, noting that an assessment is currently underway by the organization, UN agencies, and other humanitarian groups.
Lanino added that Save the Children plans to implement an appropriate response to meet the needs of the affected population, especially children, confirming that relief efforts continue with the aim of assisting all those impacted.
He reported that 150 survivors have been rescued from the disaster, including 40 children, and that these figures are being assessed to ensure the provision of necessary aid.
He emphasized that these children not only lost their families but also everything else due to the disaster, stating that all affected individuals require various forms of support, including food and protection.
Last week, more than a thousand people were killed in a massive landslide that destroyed an entire village in the Darfur region of western Sudan, according to the Sudan Liberation Army, which controls the area.
