RSF militia Sells Weapons to Enemies of (Abiy Ahmed)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has sold new weapons and ammunition to the Ethiopian Fano militia in a border city between Sudan and Ethiopia. Dozens of militia members fled the recent battles of Al-Dindir with the Sudanese army for fear of death and capture and entered the border areas with Ethiopia.
In October 2024, the Ethiopian army launched a military operation targeting the rebellious Fano militias in the Amhara region, which rebelled against Abiy Ahmed’s government and demanded self-rule in its region, accusing Abiy Ahmed of betraying them after they allied with him in his war to eliminate Tigray and establish his rule.
A group of militia forces arrived at an Ethiopian market with new weapons, and sold them to the Ethiopian Fano forces who control the city. Sources reported that the militia sold the Fano elements various types of weapons, including (Dushkats, duals, RPGs, and greenov), in addition to various types of ammunition for these weapons.
Sources confirmed that the weapons and ammunition were sold for more than one million Ethiopian birr.
The sources stated that the sale took place outside the city at a site designated for selling weapons. The border area where the weapons were sold is located southeast of Mount Halawa on the Sudanese-Ethiopian border. A local market is located there and is known for selling smuggled weapons. The sources asserted that the elements fleeing from the Al-Dagalo militia from the sites of operations in Sudan are seeking to earn money in order to search for safe areas to take refuge in. In return, the Fano forces are looking for weapons to fight the Ethiopian government.
The two forces agreed to continue cooperation to purchase various and advanced weapons.
