RSF militia plunders UN Aid Convoy Heading to IDP Camp
The Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in Sudan accused, on Tuesday, the inurgent Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of ransacking a humanitarian aid convoy belonging to the World Food Program (WFP) that was on its way to the Zamzam camp in the city of El-Fashir and diverting it to South Darfur.
A statement HAC issued, said, “During the current November, the militia at the Armal area on the border between the West and North Kordofan states ransacked and attacked a humanitarian aid convoy belonging to the WFP estimated at about 7,000 metric tons of various food supplies that was on its way from Portsudan to the Zamzam camp in North Darfur State.”
The statement explained that the militia took the convoy to the city of Neyala. HAC, in statement, condemned what it described as “behavior that contradicts the rules and principles of humanitarian action,” noting that these actions aim to starve and impoverish civilians, leaving them vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition, and terrorizing the safe people.
It stressed the necessity to respect and adhere to the rules of international humanitarian law and meet the basic needs of those affected, in accordance with the approved international principles and standards represented in neutrality, independence, humanity and respect for the dignity of the Sudanese human being and citizen as a duty dictated by humanity.
The statement noted that the insurgent RSF continued to persist in their violations and disrespect for all obligations, particularly the Jeddah Declaration. It affirmed HAC commitment to facilitate and coordinate all efforts from various humanitarian partners to lift the harm and alleviate the suffering of those affected and displaced (IDP) citizens.
