RSF militia Digs Trenches Around El-Fashir

Local sources and eyewitnesses revealed that the Rapid Support Forces militia have tightened their siege of El-Fashir by digging deep trenches surrounding it from several directions.

Ahmed Hamid, a residents in El-Fashir, told Darfur 24 that the RSF militia began digging trenches on the southern, western, and northern sides last April using heavy machinery.

He pointed out that forces have closed all entrances except for three gates toward the Tall Road, the Nyala Road, and an entrance on the Mellit Road. These gates are fully controlled.

He explained that the eastern side of the city is under the control of the militia, but it has not yet been dug, with the forces having complete control over the exits in the eastern neighborhoods. Another eyewitness who recently arrived in the city of Mellit, and who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, reported that the militia dug a trench north of the city of El-Fashir, near the Mellit “Halouf” gate, with a depth of approximately 3 meters and a width of 6 meters, with a single exit through the gate. He confirmed that crossing the city is currently only possible through this gate, as it is impossible to cross the surrounding trench due to its depth.
