Interview: Ahmed Omar Khojali
Red Sea Wali (governor) Mustafa Mohamed Nour said that he did not rule out the infiltration of some traitors and sleeper cells into the state, at the backdrop of the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the insurgent Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia.
The Wali of the Red Sea State affirmed, in an interview with Sudanese Echoes, that his state has received large numbers of newcomers from other states due to the war, revealing the existence of a shelter committee. He pointed out that there are several societies and organizations that provide assistance to the displaced persons (IDPs), including the King Salman Center, the Qatar Red Crescent Society, and the Kuwait Fund.
With respect to the health aspect, the wali admitted that the state had a small number of hospitals and health institutions before the war, so that after the large increase in the population, pressure on this limited number of hospitals intensified, but the Federal Ministry of Health, international organizations, and businesspersons contributed to filling the gap and providing medical services to the citizens.
Electricity Problem
The wali acknowledged that the state is suffering greatly in providing electricity, particularly after the largest transformers went out of service due to a fire that it was exposed to, and the shortage was filled by borrowing two transformers from the River Nile State. He revealed the signing of a contract to complete the (Klanabib) power station, which produces 350 megawatts.
Regarding the electricity of the Turkish barge, Nour said: “It is not one barge, but three barges”, explaining that they produce 300 megawatts, 100 megawatts for each barge. He added that the state buys only 100 megawatts from the barges and the rest is covered by the Merowe Dam, as the state’s actual need is 243 megawatts. He asserted that the completion of the (Klanabib) station, will supply the national line with100 megawatts.
Natural Security
Regarding the insurgent RSF militia threats to the state, Nour said that the Red Sea mountain chain is considered a natural security for the state, while the armed forces and the rest of the security organs are closing all security loopholes in this series, through which any agent or traitor can infiltrate, and he
said that he does not rule out the entry of sleeper cells and traitors into the state.
Armed Resistance
Regarding the mobilization and people’s resistance, the Red State Wali revealed the training of about 6,000 fighters, part of this number was moved to the advanced fronts in Gezira and Khartoum states, referring to the existence of about 70 checkpoints in the city of Port Sudan alone, which are operated by people’s resistance fighters and mobilized. “We are now proceeding to form security committees within the various neighborhoods to monitor agents and infiltrators”, he added.
