Protest Held in Port Sudan Demanding Lifting of El-Fashir Siege
Port Sudan – Munira Sati
The National Mechanism for Lifting the Siege of El-Fashir, in collaboration with the Sudanese Peoples’ Association, organized a protest in front of the United Nations building in Port Sudan to denounce the “UN silence” regarding the situation of civilians in El-Fashir under militia control.
The committee submitted a memorandum to the UN, handed over to Deputy Secretary-General Danis, calling for immediate action to lift the siege on the city and save the lives of civilians.
Darfur Sultan Salah-Eddin Al-Fadl urged the United Nations to act urgently to protect civilians in El-Fashir and to expose the militias’ violations.
He added that submitting the protest memorandum reflects the UN and international organizations’ silence toward the brutal violations and atrocities committed against civilians trapped in El-Fashir, Kadugli, and Darfur.
He questioned the “suspicious silence” and emphasized the call for international justice against the repeated abuses by rebel militias against the people of El-Fashir.
Meanwhile, King Yagoub Adam stressed that the militias committed “serious violations against civilians, including siege and starvation,” urging the international community to intervene immediately.
