Prices hike is Crushing the Residents of White Nile State

Rabak: Faisal Ahmed Khair

A tour conducted by (Sudanese Echoes) in the markets of White Nile State manifested a frightening and crazy rise in the prices of food commodities. Traders and officials in the state attributed the high prices to the closure of the Sennar-Port Sudan road by the outlaw Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia.

Traders revealed to (Sudanese Echoes) that they resorted to new methods to deliver food supplies to the state via the northern state from Ad-Dabba, passing through the desert road west of the Nile, with its hazards and long distance. The risks that traders talk about include the presence of outlaws and RSF militia gangs, in addition to the very high fees imposed on goods. The journey on this long road takes between three and four days for the trucks of goods to reach Kosti and from there to the rest of the other cities of the state.

Commodity prices

If we take an example of the prices of essential commodities that must be provided in every home, we will see something amazing. For example, the price of a 50-kilo sack of sugar is 240,000 pounds (SDG), while a 36-pound can of oil costs SDG90,000, and the price of a one kilo of onions reaches SDG4,000 . As for meat, a kilo of lamb costs SDG12,000, and a kilo of veal costs SDG8,000. Traders told “Sudanese Echoes” that the price of a sack of Egyptian beans is SDG500,000, the price of a dish of Egyptian beans in the state’s restaurants is SDG3,000 and a sack of lentils and rice costs SDG105,000 for each. They added that a kilo of dura flour costs SDG3750, a 25-kilo bag of wheat flour costs 95 thousand pounds. Some Citizens told (Sudanese Echoes) that the price of a pound of milk is SDG1,000, the price of a plate of eggs is SDG9,000, and the price of a pound of coffee is SDG12,000. They continued to say that the price of a pound of tea is SDG2,000, and the price of a bag of vermicelli is 2,000 pounds.

Fuel shortages

The White Nile State is currently experiencing a severe fuel shortage in both benzine and gasoline (diesel), as the price of a gallon of benzine in the black-market ranges between SDG40,000 and SDG60,000, which has affected the price of transportation in the city, prompting many to rely on their feet to get to and from the market.
