Port Sudan Witnesses Birth of “New Structures” for Sudan’s Largest Political Coalition
The Democratic Bloc held today an expanded Leadership meeting in Port Sudan, attended by most of the bloc’s senior leaderships. The discussions focused on the bloc’s bylaws and the development of its organizational structures as the country’s largest political coalition.
Chairman of the Political Committee and Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, praised the crucial role of the press and media in conveying the bloc’s activities to citizens. Speaking to reporters at the Marina Hotel in Port Sudan after the meeting, he said the current focus is on organizing the internal structure of the Democratic Bloc.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abdel Aziz Osher, a member of the bloc’s Leadership Board, said that the three-day meetings addressed fundamental amendments to the bloc’s bylaws. He confirmed that the new system regulates internal relations and defines the responsibilities of the leadership bodies, which include the Leadership Council, Presidential Council, and Leadership Board.
Osher also revealed the creation of extensive specialized sectors covering political affairs, foreign relations, professionals, regional affairs, economy, legal affairs, peace and displaced persons, culture and media, and women’s affairs, branching into approximately 25 secretariats to ensure coverage of all national and humanitarian matters.
Bloc leader Al Amin Dawood described the meeting as “foundational and expanded,” noting that the drafting of the “expanded bylaws” aims to accommodate forces currently within the bloc and those expected to join in the future.
He emphasized that this step prepares the bloc for a pivotal stage requiring clear and disciplined political mechanisms to face national challenges.
Leader Sally Zaki added that the meeting concluded with the development of a comprehensive plan to revitalize the bloc’s roles in the upcoming phase, both internally to address Sudan’s domestic crisis and externally through engagement with regional and international actors. The final version of the bylaws is scheduled to be submitted to the Presidential Council for ratification in a meeting before the end of Ramadan, marking the beginning of a new phase of political activity for the coalition.
