Outlaw RSF Militia Flogs Women, Bans cloak in a Darfurian City
Sudanese Echoes: The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia has banned women and girls in the city of Kabkabiya in North Darfur from wearing the cloak. Kabkabiya is located 155 km west of El-Fashir.
Eyewitnesses reported, according to (Darfur 24), that the Civilian Protection Forces, which were formed by the militia a few weeks ago, carried out security campaigns in the large Kabkabiya and the livestock markets and flogged women wearing the floak and face mask with whips and forced them to take it off in the middle of the market.
One of the victims – who preferred to speak in anonymity – told (Darfur 24) that she was “subjected to violence and flogging with whips in the middle of the market by outlaw RSF militia members, who demanded that she remove the veil from her head and not wear it again. She stated that the insurgent RSF militia imposed an amount of 50,000 pounds to obtain a permit in the event that she insisted on wearing the floak.
Last week, the commander of the outlaw RSF Militia’s First Brigade in Kabkabiya, Maala Abdullah Bukhari, issued a decision banning the wearing of the kadamoul (a piece of cloth that janjaweeds wrap around their heads) and the floak inside the city except for those authorized. He warned that violating the decisions exposes the violator to legal accountability.
