Osman Mirghani: I was beaten due the directives of President Al-Bashir
Cairo: Musab Mahmoud
The renowned journalist and political analyst Osman Mirghani admitted that he had previously belonged to the Islamic Trend due to his upbringing in his Islamic father’s home. At the same time, he denied his dismissal from the Islamic Trend, saying that he left on his own desire (they did not give me an exit visa).
Mirghani explained, in an interview with the (Sudanese Echoes) platform, that he left the Islamic Trend after graduating from university in 1983. Mirghani directed his criticism at the intellectual organization of the Islamists. He said that their receptivity to advice is low and unacceptable due to the arrogance and a kind of self-aggrandizement.
In the same context, Osman denied that he had partners in establishing Al-Tayyar newspaper, revealing that it was a family partnership (my wife and I).
In a related context, Osman Mirghani unveiled new details about the famous incident of the attack on him inside Al-Tayyar premises, saying that the incident took place in Ramadan 2014 and occurred half an hour before breakfast by 7 people who stormed the newspaper’s headquarters, while another group was outside the office. He pointed out that a group of them beat him violently inside the office and hit him with a weapon in his eye (buttstock). He affirmed that those who beat him did so on the orders of President Omar al-Bashir at the time because he said during a TV program that the Darfur war is a war of Islamists and that Israel has nothing to do with it. He revealed that he was informed by a police officer with the rank of lieutenant general that the first defendant in the case is al-Bashir.
