Newly Revealed Facts… The Rise of “Hemeidti” from Soldier to General
An article by Darfur affairs expert and renowned journalist Al Sadig Ibrahim (Al Rizeiqi) has disclosed for the first time details about the rise of the Janjaweed leader from a soldier under Musa Hilal, leader of the Mahamid tribe, to a general and commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
The article confirms that Hemeidti began his military career in 2003 as a mobilized soldier under the command of Sheikh Musa Hilal in the Darfur Border Guards, following the attack on Al Fashir. He was assigned to lead a field unit around Nyala under the supervision of military intelligence. Hemeidti gradually rose from soldier to senior sergeant, leveraging his ability to recruit tribal elements, amid early tensions with the native administration and an emerging power struggle with Hilal’s leadership.
