New Ugandan Position on RSF Militia
Uganda has declared that it will not serve as a safe haven for rebels against the Sudanese government, in reference to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Ugandan Minister of Justice Norbert Mao, during his meeting with Sudanese Minister of Justice Abdullah Dirif on the sidelines of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization meetings in Kampala, affirmed that President Museveni is ready to facilitate a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue aimed at achieving peace and stability, preventing foreign interventions in Sudan and Africa, and isolating the RSF militia.
The Ugandan Minister stressed his country’s belief in the importance of peace and stability in Sudan, describing it as a bridge between Africa and the Middle East, noting that Sudan’s security is integral to that of the region and the continent.
Regarding the RSF rebellion, Minister Mao expressed deep admiration for the Sudanese Armed Forces in defeating the militia and expelling it from the capital, despite the vast resources and substantial military and logistical support the group has received.
He reaffirmed that Uganda will not be a refuge for rebels and will coordinate with the Sudanese government in this regard.
On the matter of looted vehicles, the Ugandan Minister pledged to personally oversee their handover, along with other seized property, in coordination with the Sudanese Embassy in Kampala.
For his part, Minister Dirif briefed the Ugandan side on the grave violations of international law committed by the terrorist RSF militia and its backers. He stressed the importance of Uganda standing with Sudan to end this rebellion that threatens peace and security in the region.
He further underscored the need for cooperation between the two Ministries of Justice in the coming period, including the signing of agreements on extradition of criminals and combating cross-border crime.
Dr. Dirif also requested his Ugandan counterpart to expedite procedures for the handover of pillaged Sudanese vehicles that have been held by Ugandan authorities for several months, a matter being closely followed by Sudan’s Embassy in Kampala.
