New Details on the U.S. Roadmap to End the Sudan War
Al Arabiya TV revealed, citing sources, key elements of the proposed U.S. plan and roadmap aimed at ending the war in Sudan.
According to the channel’s sources, the American proposal is built on three tracks: military, humanitarian, and political. The proposal calls for a ceasefire and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance.
The sources indicated that the plan includes provisions for disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) of armed groups, as well as the dismantling of militias. It further asserts the need for military reform that would exclude what it describes as “the Brotherhood” from the Sudanese army and security services.
According to the roadmap, the United States proposes a civilian-led political process. The plan also calls for the establishment of an international committee to oversee the ceasefire and put in place monitoring mechanisms.
The humanitarian track, according to the proposal, would commence after both the national army and the rebel militia agree to the truce and begin a process aimed at ending the war.
