Miscarriages Recorded Among Women Fleeing Al-Fashir

A spokesperson for the Sudanese Doctors Network reported that miscarriages have been recorded among women facing severe conditions while fleeing Al-Fashir in North Darfur State.

Most of the displaced persons (IDPs) are walking roughly 60 kilometres from Al-Fashir to Tawila, while others are undertaking journeys of more than 1,000 kilometres to Al-Dabba in the Northern State in open vehicles under extreme temperatures.

Network spokesperson Razan Al-Mahdi told the Sudan Tribune that the network “documented miscarriages during the displacement from Al-Fashir due to the harsh conditions, and monitoring continues as the exodus continues.”

She added that health organizations are providing emergency medical care to pregnant women, amid growing challenges for those suffering miscarriages because of the long distances travelled and the limited availability of resources.

Razan Al-Mahdi said that more than 100 pregnant women have arrived in Tawila and nearby camps from Al-Fashir, where several births have been recorded. She added that another 143 pregnant women have reached Al-Dabba camp, where one birth has been documented.
