Minnawi: The Country Will Descend into Chaos if a Ceasefire Is Negotiated
The General Supervisor of the Joint Force and President of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minnawi, on Monday warned that the country could descend into the chaos of multiple governments if a humanitarian ceasefire were negotiated between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, treating them as two separate governments.
In an interview with Darfur24, Minnawi said there are clear indications of determined efforts to impose a fait accompli in the country by establishing two governments.
He stated that any move to negotiate as two governments would lead to chaos, emphasizing that the situation would not stop at having two governments in the east and west of the country, but would result in the formation of several smaller governments.
Minnawi affirmed that their stance on peace remains firm, adding: “We are not against a ceasefire, but any ceasefire being negotiated must be clear.”
He accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of seeking to seize control of the country—or at least its western region—through its allies, noting that what unites the militia and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement is an attempt to impose a fait accompli in Darfur and South Kordofan.
Regarding the cessation of operations on the fighting fronts, Minnawi said that some operations are ongoing in certain areas, but they are not at the required level.
He added: “There are many volunteers ready to fight, but they lack support,” stressing that the slow pace of operations is the responsibility of the leadership.
