Minnawi Attacks New International Mechanism (The Quintet)
The Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minnawi, has condemned the invitation extended by five international and regional actors to the Janjaweed-led government and the so-called “Tasis” coalition, describing the move as a disregard for practices he labeled as “genocide and ethnic cleansing.”
In a post on Facebook, Minnawi criticized the Quintet—comprising the African Union, the Arab League, IGAD, the United Nations, and the European Union—for inviting the Tasis coalition (Janjaweed/Rapid Support Forces) at a time when genocide and ethnic cleansing are allegedly being carried out by them.
He added: “The world is rushing to wash its hands of the blood,” and threatened to boycott the invitation and refrain from participating in a Sudan-focused conference convened by these international and regional bodies.
