Militia Kills Prominent Leader of Abdel-Wahid Movement
Mohamed Bashir Norain, a prominent leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Nour, was killed on Sunday evening when unidentified gunmen attacked an artisanal mining site in the West Keila area of Al-Malam Locality in South Darfur State, according to eyewitnesses and multiple local sources.
Meanwhile, the Shahed Ayan platform, citing its sources, said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia killed Norain. Norain was one of the founders of the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Nour since its establishment in the early 2000s and was one of its leaders in the eastern Jebel Marra areas.
A relative of Norin, who requested anonymity, told Darfur24 that unidentified gunmen attacked the 58-year-old Norain at night while he was at an artisanal mining site before fleeing toward Al-Malam town. The motive for the attack and circumstances surrounding his killing remained unclear. The relative said Norain was regarded as the movement’s senior-most leader in the areas of eastern Jebel Marra, Al-Malam, Keila and Kalkoli, where he was also responsible for the movement’s administrative and financial affairs.
He added that a local community search party went to the scene and managed to track the attackers’ footprints to one of the areas, but the perpetrators had not been apprehended. He said Norain was killed at night while riding a camel between areas in eastern Jebel Marra and Al-Malam.
