Military Source: Leadership Not Considering Ousting Prime Minister Idris
A reliable military source on Monday revealed new details regarding Prime Minister Kamil Idris’s visit to Switzerland.
In a statement issued the same day, the Prime Minister’s office confirmed that Idris is in good health and that his trip abroad was part of an official mission. The statement added that Idris continues to monitor developments in Sudan—both domestically and internationally—on a daily, round-the-clock basis.
The military source told Sudan Tribune that “the country’s leadership is not considering or planning to oust Idris from his position.” He added that “Idris is currently in Geneva receiving medical treatment” and noted that the Prime Minister held meetings with officials from international organizations to discuss the humanitarian situation in Sudan, particularly in the Darfur region.
Earlier media reports had suggested that the military leadership was weighing the possibility of dismissing Idris over what was described as weak performance. Several columnists had also intensified their criticism, accusing Idris of distancing himself from public concerns. His unannounced departure from the country fueled speculation about a possible resignation.
The statement from the Prime Minister’s office emphasized that Kamil Idris remains in constant communication with the country’s leadership, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, and members and institutions of the government. The office added that Idris is expected to return to Sudan at the end of the week.
