Military Reinforcements Deployed in Al-Dabbah After Clashes Between Suspected Drug Traffickers Leave 22 Dead and Injured
The Security Committee of Al-Dabbah Locality in Sudan’s Northern State announced on Wednesday that eight people were killed and 14 others injured in armed clashes that erupted in the town on Tuesday evening. Authorities said heightened security measures have been introduced to contain the situation and prevent further violence.
Videos shared by residents showed a heavy deployment of Sudanese Armed Forces personnel and armored vehicles across the town’s streets following the unrest.
The clashes involved armed groups accused of drug trafficking, who exchanged heavy and light weapons fire, resulting in multiple casualties.
In response, the locality’s Security Committee, chaired by the Executive Director, held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to assess the security situation, review the circumstances surrounding the clashes, and determine the measures needed to restore stability.
Speaking to the press, the committee’s rapporteur and Director of Police for Al-Dabbah Locality, Brig. Gen. Yousif Juma Karkasawi, said the violence stemmed from confrontations between groups accused of drug trafficking, leaving eight people dead and 14 others wounded.
He said the Security Committee had adopted a number of urgent measures, including banning the carrying of firearms within Al-Dabbah town and confiscating any weapons found, launching an immediate manhunt to apprehend those responsible for the violence, and prohibiting tea vendors from operating after 3:00 p.m. as part of efforts to strengthen public security.
Karkasawi added that additional regular security forces had been deployed throughout the town to maintain order, monitor criminal activity, and prevent any recurrence of the clashes.
He also revealed that authorities had launched a large-scale search and inspection campaign beginning at the site of the clashes and extending to several suspected locations. The operation resulted in the seizure of 15 barrels of gasoline, along with the detection of other violations.
