Massive Eruption of “Erta Ale” Volcano in Ethiopia Near Sudanese Border
The Hailey Gobi Volcano in the Afar Region of eastern Ethiopia has been experiencing a violent eruption since the morning of 23 November 2025, sending an ash column soaring to approximately 3 kilometres, prompting aviation authorities to issue a red alert due to the danger posed to air traffic.
Wind-tracking models indicate that ash clouds are moving north and west, potentially affecting some areas in Yemen with environmental and health risks if volcanic activity escalates, according to Taybah TV.
This eruption is considered a rare geological event, with ongoing explosions and expanding smoke clouds requiring close regional monitoring.
Meanwhile, meteorologist Munzir Al-Haj warned residents of Sudan’s Red Sea State on his official Facebook page that the volcanic ash from Ethiopia is laden with carbon dioxide and could impact large areas. He urged citizens in the affected regions to exercise extreme caution and vigilance.
