Mass Execution of Civilians in Bara by Militia Owned by the Dagalo Family
On Monday, the Emergency Lawyers Group accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, owned by the Dagalo family, of committing “horrific massacres” against civilians in the city of Bara in North Kordofan State, following their takeover of the city after fierce battles with the Sudanese army.
On 25 October, the militia announced regaining control of Bara after intense clashes against the army and its allies.
The Sudanese army had taken control of the city on 11 September, after it had remained under militia control since the early months of the war that began on 15 April 2023.
In a statement, the Emergency Lawyers Group said that since Saturday, 25 October, the militia has been committing horrific massacres against civilians in Bara, following a battle with the army that ended with the army’s withdrawal from the city, noting that the forces carried out “wide-scale attacks directly targeting civilians.”
The statement added that neighborhoods in the city witnessed “mass executions claiming hundreds of lives, mostly young people, alongside arrest campaigns, looting, and destruction affecting public and private property, amid a complete disruption of communication and internet networks.”
