Mariam Al-Mahdi: We are not part of (Sumoud or Tagadum)… we must conduct dialogue with the Islamists

The Deputy Head of the National Umma Party (NUP), Mariam Al-Sadig, disavowed he Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud), the Sudanese Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Tagadum) and the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC). She said that the party was never part of Sumoud or Tagadum, while it suspend its membership in the Forces of Freedom and Change since July 2023, at the same time that it called for dialogue with all parties, including the Islamists, to stop the war in Sudan.

During an interview with (Al-Jazeera Mubasher), Mariam Al-Sadig attributed the failure of the African Union meetings with the political forces to the refusal of everyone to reject everyone under the pretext of loyalty to the army or the militia or representing the Sudanese people. She said that Sudan needs wise political leaders who look to the interests of the Sudanese, not to judge their remains.

Advice to Al-Burhan:

Meanwhile, Mariam advised President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, to overcome the anger and form a caretaker government for the transitional period and to avoid criminalizing part of the people’s leadership. She confirmed that Al-Burhan was chosen by the Sudanese revolution to head the Sovereignty Council.

Dangerous Confusion:

In a related context, the NUP Deputy Head admitted the existence of dangerous confusion, absence and organizational fluidity in the party and accused the party leader, Burmah Nassir, of bypassing the party’s institutions and establishing an unconstitutional body to lead the party in isolation from the party’s institutions.
She confirmed that the party’s entry into Tagadum and Sumoud was done in isolation from the party, as well as Burmah’s participation in the militia government in Nairobi.

The Deput Head of the National Umma Party said that what happened in Nairobi jumped stages and was subject to and absorbed in a single ideological vision of one faction – referring to Al-Hilu faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM-Al-Hilu).

Consecration to War:

Maryam asserted, during the interview with Al Jazeera, that the charter is consecration to war more than to peace, accusing the party leader, Burmah Nassir, of not referring to the party’s institutions in signing the charter or participating in the event itself. She said, “Burmah did not inform us of the content of the charter, and we saw it like others through the media.”

Mariam revealed that the NUP presidency would met on Monday to decide on the party leader. She disclosed that there was a proposal to dismiss Burmah, confirming that his participation in the Nairobi meetings was illegal and unconstitutional.

NUP Deputy Head unveiled that a number of members of the NUP political bureau and leaderships participated in the Nairobi event without the party’s knowledge. She described what happened in Nairobi as a formal gathering in the name of the margin, expressing her surprise at the chants accompanying the Nairobi event calling for abandoning everything old in Sudan and replacing it with a militia government. Mariam Al-Mahdi announced her rejection of challenging the Sudanese army. “The comments about it do not mean challenging the army,” she said, describing the idea of throwing away the old as an unintelligent idea.
