Machar’s Army Retakes Strategic Military Base from RSF in Upper Nile

The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA-IO) First Infantry Division successfully recaptured its former base in Booth, Upper Nile, from Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The militia had clashed with opposition forces at the military base, killing a large number of officers, including a brigadier and major generals.
This operation came in response to the deadly attack launched by the militia last month on an SPLA-IO base, which resulted in the deaths of the local commander and dozens of soldiers.
According to field reports, the SPLA-IO attack, launched on April 12, 2025, resulted in the elimination of the militia commander responsible for the previous attack, and the killing of 36 officers of various ranks from the militia forces during the clashes.
