Khartoum State Wali requests refugees be placed in camps outside the state

The Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, called on the High Commissioner for Refugees to implement international laws and conventions towards refugees residing in Khartoum State by placing them in specific camps as is the case in all countries that host refugees.

The Wali said, upon receiving the representative of the High Commissioner for Refugees in Sudan, Christine Hamburg, that some refugees joined the rebel militia and committed crimes against the state and citizens, so the state demanded their deportation and they were given a two-week grace period to leave in order to preserve their lives. Hamza added, “Usually when a war breaks out in any country, foreigners leave, but the foreigners did not leave Khartoum,” requesting that a site be allocated for them outside the state under the supervision of the High Commissioner.
