Khartoum Authorities Ban Celebrations and Protests, Vow Decisive Action

The Khartoum State government on Tuesday announced a ban on celebrations and protest demonstrations, directing authorities to take decisive action against violations.

Vast areas of Khartoum State continue to experience notable security fragility due to the presence of criminal groups terrorizing civilians. In response, security authorities have intensified efforts to restore order and combat negative phenomena, paving the way for a return to normal life and the safe return of displaced persons (IDPs) after prolonged displacement.

In a statement, the Khartoum State Security Committee said, “The committee decided at its meeting today to prohibit New Year celebrations in halls, clubs, and resorts.”

The statement also noted that the committee had decided to ban protest demonstrations, refusing authorization for their organization and instructing authorities to deal decisively with any attempts. The meeting praised the arrests of criminal gangs and the security cordons implemented across wide areas of Khartoum’s localities.
