Intense Battles Near Al-Obied and Babanusa
The Sudanese army is engaged in multiple battles across different fronts in North and West Kordofan states (southern Sudan), while displaced civilians continue to flee the horrors of war, amid UN calls for increased resources to meet their needs.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported fierce clashes between the army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia west of Al-Obied, the capital of North Kordofan, and in Babanusa, a major city in West Kordofan, as well as in towns across northern parts of the states.
Military sources told Al Jazeera that RSF forces shelled Babanusa with drones and artillery. Meanwhile, sources speaking to Anadolu Agency confirmed that the Sudanese army and allied forces are advancing in the Um Semaima axis in North Kordofan and the western Al-Khuwai axis in West Kordofan.
Um Semaima is a strategic area located approximately 50 kilometres west of Al-Obied, serving as a key link between North and West Kordofan states.
