Hunger Causes Fainting Among Civilians in Al-Fashir

Severe hunger has led to numerous cases of fainting among children, women, and the elderly in Al-Fashir.
Despite the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) insisting that no civilians remain in the city, the United Nations confirms that about 260,000 civilians — including 130,000 children — are still trapped inside the besieged city.

Darfur24 documented multiple cases of fainting among children, women, and elderly people on the streets of Al-Fashir, as many have lost the strength to endure due to the lack of food. Additional cases were recorded among those waiting in food charity lines late last week, as hunger took its toll.

Several traders told Darfur24 that the city experienced a total shortage of food items on Monday, along with a severe scarcity and sharp rise in the price of umbaz (groundnut meal).

Food trader Mohamed Adam Issa said that the markets have become completely empty of food supplies, especially rice and flour, while umbaz has disappeared from all parts of the city, with prices soaring. He noted that a kora (basket) of umbaz now costs SDG 100 through banking apps and SDG 50,000 in cash — at a time when cash liquidity has. nearly vanished in the city.
