Hundreds of Children Killed, Missing, and Raped in Bara

The National Council for Child Welfare in Sudan has reported a severe deterioration in the situation of children in the town of Bara, citing grave violations committed in recent weeks.

The Council’s Secretary-General, Abdel-Gadir Al-Amin Abu, told Sudan Tribune on Tuesday that verified reports documented the killing of 50 children, the disappearance of 100 others, and the rape of more than 25 girls by militia fighters after they regained control of the city on October 25.

He added that numerous cases of lost and displaced children were recorded along the route between Bara and Al-Muweilih, and that the number of children suffering from homelessness and malnutrition in the region has exceeded 500,000 since the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023.

Abdel-Gadir noted that many children have endured deep psychological trauma after witnessing scenes of murder and sexual violence, leaving serious humanitarian and mental scars. He called for urgent intervention by child protection partners to provide psychological and social support and to strengthen protection mechanisms to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the area.
