High-Level AU Delegation Arrives in Sudan

Port Sudan – Sudanese Echoes

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, received today in his office the African Union (AU) delegation to Sudan, led by AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, Amma Twum-Amoah.

Commissioner Twum-Amoah explained that her visit to Sudan aims to assess the overall humanitarian and health situation and identify the urgent needs in the areas affected by the war, noting that the African Union attaches special importance to the situation in Sudan. She added that the visit comes in implementation of the directives of the Peace and Security Council’s Subcommittee on Refugees, Returnees, and Internally Displaced Persons.

For his part, the Undersecretary welcomed the AU delegation, stressing that the visit comes at a very critical time as the terrorist militia continues its policy of siege and starvation against women and children in El-Fashir, in open defiance of both regional and international communities.

He provided a detailed briefing on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, affirming that the Government of Sudan continues to fulfill its responsibilities toward citizens in war-affected areas in full coordination with humanitarian organizations operating in the country. He also highlighted the government’s focus on voluntary return efforts, which have expanded across the country following the government’s control and securing of areas previously held by the terrorist Al-Daglo militia.
