Hemeidti Survives Assassination Attempt, Nine Guard Officers Killed
Rebel militia commander Hemeidti has survived an assassination attempt after his convoy was subjected to a major attack inside Nyala.
The attack was carried out by tribal groups, including members of the Misseriya and Fulani tribes, in retaliation for the militia’s elimination, imprisonment, and torture of tribal leaderships from these tribes.
The attack resulted in the destruction of five fully armed combat vehicles and the deaths of nine guard officers with the ranks of lieutenant colonel, major, and captain, as well as a number of soldiers.
Counselor Yassin, who was part of the convoy, was also killed.
The attack occurred after Hemeidti had visited his mother’s home in the airport neighborhood of Nyala.
The militia concealed the news, arrested dozens of its Commanders, and launched extensive investigations.
It is expected that the rebel militia will experience divisions and internal war.
