Health Minister: Losses of health sector due to militia violations are $11 billion

The Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, said that the estimated losses in the health sector due to the aggression of the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia are (11) billion dollars, and the assessment is still ongoing. The losses include medical equipment and devices, drug supplies, sabotage of hospitals, looting of ambulances, transportation and shipping vehicles.

The Minister of Health reviewed, during the Weekly Briefing Forum of the Ministry of Culture and Information on the Violations of the rebel RSF militia against the Health Sector in the General Intelligence Service Hall in Portsudan on Saturday, the extent of the vandalism that affected the health and pharmaceutical sector due to the systematic sabotage by insurgent RSF militia.

The Minister added that the amount of medicine lost is estimated at $500 million from the main supplies, disclosing that the amount of medicine plundered in Al-Gezira State by the RSF militia is estimated at $20 million, and that the amount lost from the medical supply chain is estimated at about $600 million. This included the destruction of raw materials and pharmaceutical factories and the theft of equipment, in addition to the damage to the private sector.

The Minister referred to the attacks of the RSF militia on the health sector, where 250 hospitals were vandalized and put out of service, noting that most of them are central hospitals that provide specialized services such as oncology hospitals, pointing out that the rebel RSF militia has used a number of hospitals as military barracks, and has not hesitated to plunder the Sudanese Ministry of Health’s pharmaceutical supplies located in the main warehouses in Darfur or Al-Gezira, as well as directly targeting hospitals.

He pointed out that the terrorist Al-Dagalo gang targeted the Children’s Hospital and the Kidney Center in Al-Fashir through bombing, which affected the health system as a result, stressing that despite this, Al-Fashir Hospital is still providing its health services.
