Gradual Resumption of Hospital Services in Khartoum, Malaria Outbreak Warnings Issued
Sudan Doctors Network announced on Wednesday that approximately 284 hospitals and health centres in Khartoum State have gradually returned to service after suffering extensive destruction and vandalism during the period when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) controlled large parts of the state. The announcement came amid warnings of a rise in malaria infection rates.
The health sector in Khartoum State sustained severe damage during the first year of the war, with about 70 percent of hospitals rendered fully or partially out of service due to shelling, looting, and shortages of medical supplies.
More than 120 public and private hospitals were also plundered, a development that further deteriorated healthcare services and significantly curtailed the state’s capacity to meet growing treatment needs.
