Government rejects UN call to negotiate with RSF militia in Geneva

The Sudanese government has closed the door to UN envoy Ramtane Lamamra to hold meetings with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Geneva.

Official sources told (Sudanese Echoes) that the government clearly conveyed to the UN envoy that it rejects holding a meeting with the RSF militia in Geneva. It stressed its abidance by the platform and implementation of the Jeddah Declaration signed in May 2023.

In the same context, the envoy met with the militia delegation to negotiate in Addis Ababa. Lamamra said, in a tweet after the meeting, that he spoke about the ongoing mediation efforts, especially with regard to the efforts made by the United Nations to implement the recommendations of the Secretary-General on the protection of civilians in Sudan. The meeting discussed various aspects of peacemaking efforts.

For its part, the militia issued a statement, after the end of the meeting, in which it explained that its delegation discussed with the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy the developments in Sudan.
