Government Extends Opening of Border Crossing with Chad

The government has decided to extend the opening of the Adre border crossing on the Sudan–Chad frontier to allow the passage of humanitarian assistance delivered by international aid organizations, effective from January 1 through March 31, 2026.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the move reaffirms the Sudanese government’s commitment to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need across all parts of the country. It also signals goodwill toward facilitating humanitarian operations and strengthening coordination with relief organizations working in Sudan, in line with applicable regulations and international humanitarian law.

The government noted that the decision to extend the opening of the Adre crossing comes in the aftermath of what it described as grave atrocities committed by the rebel militia following its entry into El-Fashir, Babanusa, and Heglig, which reportedly claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians.

The Sudanese government expressed condolences to the victims and their families, while urging sisterly and friendly countries, as well as humanitarian organizations, to accelerate the delivery of urgently needed assistance to affected civilians. It also called on aid agencies to seize the extension of the Adre crossing to scale up efforts to meet pressing needs in the region, in coordination with the relevant state authorities.
