Gebreil: Egypt seeks to hold a direct meeting between Sudan and UAE
Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, Head of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) has disclosed Egyptian efforts to hold a direct meeting between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Gebbreil denied, in an interview with Sudanese journalists in Cairo, existence of an integrated Turkish initiative. He said that talk about it may have come incidentally in a conversation between President Al-Burhan and President Erdogan. He pointed out that the Turkish Minister of State for Foreign Affairs will arrive in Portsudan on January 4 and will meet with Al-Burhan and is expected to put forward an initiative.
Regarding the continued export of gold to the UAE, he said that 80% of gold production in Sudan is produced by the private sector and exported to the Emirates because its market provides advance payment and other guarantees for exporters. He acknowledged the difficulty of finding alternative markets.
The Minister of Finance referred to the efforts of some organizations to declare famine in Sudan, categorically stating that this means opening the country’s borders and violating its sovereignty, and allowing organizations to delve and do whatever they want.
