From within UN Headquarters in New York, Foreign Minister calls for a ban on supplying weapons to RSF militia

New York, Sudanese Echoes – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Awad Ali, participated in the Summit of the Future on behalf of President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC). He was accompanied by Ambassador Al-Harith Idris Al-Harith, Permanent Representative of the Sudan Mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Anas Al-Tayib Al-Jailani, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Sudan Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

The Summit of the Future opened its sessions in the morning, September 22, 2024, under the slogan “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow” on the sidelines of the high-level week meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in its seventy-ninth session. Its sittings will continue until, September 23, 2024.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Future Outcome Document was adopted by consensus. The document is considered a global pledge that reflects the spirit of multilateralism and respect for pluralism, which represents a comprehensive charter for reforming the international order, the international financial structure, and international financial institutions, particularly the Security Council.

The document also addressed the goals of sustainable development, combating poverty, and working to bridge the digital gap between developing and developed countries, and the necessity of addressing the challenges of climate change and caring for youth issues and their future.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered Sudan’s statement at the summit, in which he addressed developments in the situation in Sudan and the aggressive war launched by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia against the Sudanese people, listing some of its crimes and calling on the international community to condemn it.

His Excellency also called for the necessity of adhering to the international pledges related to small arms, light weapons and others, including the ban on the supply of the terrorist groups and militias rebelling against the legitimacy of the state with weapons and ammunition, specially in cases of armed conflict.
