From Hamdok’s Office to the Sovereign Council: Al-Burhan Appoints Amjad Farid as Advisor

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a decree appointing Dr. Amjad Farid Al-Tayib as Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Advisor to the TSC President.
The move places one of the most prominent pro-democracy civilian figures, and a leading voice of the December Revolution that toppled the National Congress Party regime, within one of the most influential advisory circles shaping state policy.
Dr. Farid brings prior executive experience, having served as an advisor in the office of former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, strengthening his capacity to navigate complex political and diplomatic portfolios.
Sources indicated that the appointment comes as part of efforts to enhance the government’s international engagement at a time when Sudan remains engulfed in a prolonged war and intensifying geopolitical tensions.
The decision also sends a clear political signal by elevating an independent civilian figure with strong revolutionary credibility to a strategic role, contributing to the recalibration of Sudan’s foreign relations and the development of its political discourse before the international community.
