The former Secretary-General of the National Umma Party (NUP), Dr. Abdel-Rahman Al-Ghaly, has affirmed that the ongoing war was the result of the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) attempt to seize power, according to several evidences.

Al-Ghaly revealed, in an interview with the (Sudanese Echoes) platform – published on the internal pages and on the channel’s website – that the RSF militia had early intentions to seize power, adding that a report by the Security Council had previously disclosed this during the Juba negotiations between the government and the armed movements, during which Hemeidti, according to the UN report, proposed to the armed movements to coordinate to seize power.

Al-Ghaly confirmed that he supports the army because it is national institution, unlike the RSF militia, which belongs to a specific component. Al-Ghaly said: “The army, whatever the opinion is about its commandership, it can be changed, but the RSF is a family institution.”

In the same context, Al-Ghaly accused the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddum) headed by Hamdok of committing several mistakes, pointeding out that Taqaddum says “it is in favor of stopping the war, but all evidences are otherwise.” He explained that Taqaddum adopted the Rapid Support Forces’ vision regarding who started the war and did not wait for the results of the investigation. Taqaddum also signed a declaration with the Rapid Support Forces and recognized the civil administrations that it formed in areas under its control. He continued, “Taqaddum condemns the army in its statements and does not condemn the militia when it commits violations.” In the same context, Al-Ghaly revealed that he proposed a solution to the Sudanese crisis that could have prevented the outbreak of war, which was to hold a comprehensive conference for everyone, including the National Congress.

He acknowledged that this proposal was rejected within the National Umma Party by leaders. He said that he asked the party to change its slogan (No to war) to (With war). He pointed out that the dialogue with the National Congress does not mean that you want them to rule after the war through a comprehensive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue that explains the causes of the war, the method of governance, rights, how to distribute wealth, and the system of government. If this happens, it can close the door to foreign interventions that can impose things on you that you do not want.
