Foreign Ministry: US sanctions on Al-Burhan mean supporting perpetrators of genocide in Sudan

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its rejection and condemnation of the sanctions imposed by the US Treasury Department on President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), noting that the decision lacks the simplest foundations of justice and objectivity, and involves extreme disdain for the Sudanese people who stand as a whole behind General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan as a symbol of their sovereignty and armed forces.

The Office of the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a press statement, “The sanctions are based on flimsy pretexts that have no relation with the reality.”

The Foreign Ministry continued, “It is strange that this suspicious decision came after the US administration concluded that the militia is committing genocide crimes in Sudan,” adding, “Therefore, the decision to impose sanctions on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which defends the Sudanese people in the face of the genocide plot, days before the end of its mandate, expresses nothing but confusion and a weak sense of justice.

The Sudanese government explained that the flawed decision cannot be justified by claiming neutrality, because it practically means supporting those who commit genocide.
