Evacuation of Sudan’s Heglig Field and Halt of Oil Production
Production has stopped at Sudan’s Heglig oil field, one of the country’s largest, amid rising tensions in the ongoing war between the army on one side and the mutinous Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the other.
A government source told the Washington-based specialist platform Energy Platform that operating companies evacuated the field and workers left the site on Sunday due to fears that the militia might target the facility.
The source added that the militia controls the perimeter of the Sudanese Heglig field but has not entered it yet, noting that the evacuation decision was taken to protect the workers.
Another source said that production in Heglig has come to a complete halt in recent hours as RSF forces approached the giant oil installation.
