EU Extends Sanctions on “Al-Dagalo” Family for One Year

The European Union (EU) on Monday extended sanctions imposed on Sudan, including asset freezes and travel bans, for one year until October 10, 2026.

The sanctions target ten individuals and eight entities, including companies involved in manufacturing weapons and vehicles for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and three companies involved in purchasing military equipment for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

The ongoing war in Sudan since April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese government led by President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, and the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemeidti,” has caused a massive humanitarian disaster in the country.

The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced more than 13 million people, both internally and as refugees, while large parts of the country have plunged into famine, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The United States has accused “RSF members and allied militias of committing genocide,” and imposed sanctions on some RSF commanders, including RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemeidti.”
